Girdwood’s Secure Trash Zone Designation
– By #AlaskaWaste
On July 9, 2019, the Anchorage Assembly passed a resolution designating Girdwood as the city’s first Secure Trash Regulation Zone.
As a result, effective Aug. 5, 2019, all residential and commercial trash containers must be bear-resistant.
The designation covers the Girdwood Valley Service Area, which you can see outlined below.
What does it mean for me?
In Girdwood, nearly all of our residents and business customers already have bear-resistant roll carts and dumpsters.
We are reaching out to all customers who do not already have bear-resistant equipment and are working with them directly as we move forward in switching out their containers.
If you are unsure whether you have a bear-resistant cart or dumpster, please give us a call at (907) 563-3717. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Please see below a map of the area designated as a Secure Trash zone, and the city’s public notice.
